Monthly Community Update from Sgt Jonathan Peters |

Good afternoon,
If I may I would like to share with you some of the work that the Wolverhampton City Centre Team have been up to over the past month.
🔍 Local Priorities Over the past month the City Centre teams have made 44 arrests in relation to crimes that have occurred in our City. They range from thefts from store, assault and public order matters.
One of our priorities is theft from a person. We have charged two people last month in relation to this crime type, and I ask that when you are out and about please be mindful of who might be around you when you are widthdrawing money or getting your wallet or purse out to make purchases. If you see something suspicious, you can report it to a member of staff, PCSO & Police Officer. You can also report this online.
From speaking to local reisdents and businesses, there was some concern about the “Black Country Derby”. I am pleased to inform you that the match went on with no major incidents to report, and as a Wolves fan myself I was pleased with the result on the pitch too!
🤝 Partnership Working
We have really enjoyed working with the Local Schools, Travel West Midlands and our own colleagues at Safer Travel and the Mounted Unit in a project called “Homesafe”. Homesafe is a multi partnership deployment at the travel hub and high street where we have further opportinuty to engage with young people and adults. This has been really effective and we have seen a reduction in ASB and crime at the bus station and the surrounding locations. Other outreach teams have also been in the City, and they have been doing a great job engaging with young people and offering them support if needed.
The darker nights are drawing in, and Halloween will soon be upon us. Its great to see so many upcoming events being put on by licenced premesis' on over the Halloween weekend, and there will be a uniformed and plain clothes police presence to ensure that everyone has a safe night out -please remember there is a Safe Haven, located in Queen Square in the 01902 building. It is open every Friday and Saturday night and is there is you need and help, support or shelter.
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Community Involvement - STREET WATCH
I am keen to set up some “Street Watch” groups in the City and would love to hear from residents, students and business owners that share the same passion for building up community relationships, and doing a bit to make our communities feel that bit safer.
StreetWatch is a community-led project. It’s made up of groups of volunteers who are at least 18 years old. The groups go out and patrol their area. The patrols help to stop crime and anti-social behaviour. They also help people in the area get to know each other.
As a Street Watch member, you'll patrol your local area alongside one of your neighbours for at least two hours every month, at times which suit you.
You'll talk to people you meet and encourage them to take an active interest in keeping your area safe. So your neighbours know what you're there for, you wear a high-visibility Street Watch jacket.
Your involvement makes a real difference. If you’d like to get involved, please reach out you can e-mail streetwatch@westmidlands.police.uk with your name, postcode and phone number to learn more.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement.
Stay safe and take care,
Sgt Jonathan Peters | ||
